Age Calculator

Enter a date of birth and get the age as a person would say it — years, months and days — along with the totals a form sometimes asks for and the date of the next birthday.

What it does

The part most calculators get wrong

Month lengths. Counting an age by dividing days by 365.25 drifts, and subtracting calendar fields without care produces a negative day count whenever the start day is longer than the month before the end date. This walks the calendar: it adds whole months until one more would overshoot, then counts the remaining days.

Common questions

How is age calculated exactly?

By counting whole years, then whole months, then the leftover days — the same way a person counts. Nothing is divided by an average month length, so the answer never drifts.

What about someone born on 29 February?

In a year with no 29 February they turn a year older on 28 February by default, which is the convention most legal systems follow. You can switch it to 1 March.

Can I calculate age on a past or future date?

Yes. The second field accepts any date, so you can answer questions like how old someone was on a particular day, or will be at a future event.
